He plans on dying with Sasuke, Sasuke, he plans on dying-
Itachi's plans had fallen apart in every possible way, unraveling at every possible corner until even the fail-safe he'd had in Naruto fragmented beneath his hands. It was fitting for a monster like himself who only knew how to destroy, to bring about the crumbling end of the one he'd planned and schemed and done everything in his power to protect. Were it a choice between Sasuke and the village, it would be Sasuke, always Sasuke, his mistake had been the effort of preserving both.
Peace. What a ludicrous concept it was to him now. Danzo's death he had expected but an attack on the Kage's, and Naruto, Naruto yielding into a suicide pact to bring Sasuke down or die trying -
this was so far from where he'd meant, he'd needed, Sasuke to be.
Naruto was a guiding light, he'd deliver Sasuke from the darkness and bring him home, he'd remind him of a purpose while speaking of brotherhood, he'd fill a void within him that Itachi had done his level best to cauterize with his death; Sasuke was never meant to miss him, Sasuke was never meant to -
He plans on dying with Sasuke ...
(Do you understand now?)
Itachi stood frozen, his head bowed and his hands stilled halfway through the task of unbuckling Kakashi's pants. They trembled, ice-white and fragile, then pulled quickly away.
It was all for nothing. Sasuke would die, Sasuke was too broken and Naruto had given up in a way he had never predicted. How could he have been so blind..? Yet again, he'd placed all his hope on the wrong piece on the board, for Madara to check-mate without even trying.
The entire clan had died that night, hadn't it?
"I understand," his eyes hidden, he jerked a hand up and cut off the lights in his genjutsu, plunging Kakashi into darkness so he wouldn't see, he couldn't see Itachi's face, the silent anguish he couldn't hide. He moved mechanically, unlooping the rest of Kakashi's belt to send his pants slithering to the floor with the rest.
"It's all for nothing," he agreed in a dead whisper, but his hand still wrapped firmly around Kakashi's cock and his thumb swirled with purpose, circling the sensitive tip.
"Now be silent or I'll take your voice. Endure this, and then I'll leave you be."
